The local view
Franklinton began as a depot on the Raleigh & Gaston rail line in 1839 and incorporated in 1842 — a rail town first, a mill town later, with the 1895 Sterling Cotton Mill now on the National Register of Historic Places. The old depot still stands downtown. Today about 2,800 people live inside town limits, and Main Street is in the middle of a genuine second act: restored storefronts, new restaurants, and a streetscape project underway to rebuild sidewalks and lighting.
Buyers come to Franklinton for room and value on the US-1 corridor. Prices here run meaningfully below Wake Forest and northern Wake County just down the highway, so the same budget stretches further — into a new-construction neighborhood, acreage outside town limits, or a historic home within walking distance of downtown. And the county around it is moving: Franklin County grew roughly 17 percent between 2020 and 2024, among the fastest rates in North Carolina, while Novonesis keeps its North American headquarters right in town.
Insight Residential Realty works Franklinton as part of its five-county MLS coverage — Wake, Franklin, Nash, Wilson, and Johnston — with live search on this site, so you can watch new Franklinton listings the moment they hit the market. Based in Zebulon under Broker-in-Charge Robert Terry, the team compares the whole corridor daily: what a Franklinton price buys against Youngsville, Wake Forest, or Louisburg, which new communities are releasing lots, and where resale value is holding. Tell us your budget and we'll show you what it gets here.

About 27 miles straight down US-1 — roughly a 35-minute drive to downtown Raleigh in normal traffic, passing Youngsville and Wake Forest along the way.
Yes. Franklin County grew about 17 percent between 2020 and 2024, one of the fastest rates in North Carolina, and Franklinton itself has been adding residents at roughly 3 percent a year as new neighborhoods and downtown reinvestment continue.
A restored block of Main Street now holds Owl's Roost Brewery, Toros Tacos + Tequila, and The Slammer Speakeasy, with the historic rail depot nearby and a town streetscape project bringing new sidewalks, lighting, and utility upgrades.
